Dive into Deliciousness: Celebrating National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day!

3 Fun Family Activities for National Peanut Butter & Jelly Day

  1. PB&J Masterpiece Contest:

Get creative!  Set up a station with different breads, nut butters (peanut, almond, sunflower seed), various jellies (grape, strawberry, apricot), and fun toppings (sliced bananas, chopped nuts, mini marshmallows).

Blindfold each family member and have them create their own unique PB&J masterpiece based on taste and texture alone!  Then, unveil the creations, take pictures, and vote for the most interesting and delicious combo.

  1. PB&J Scavenger Hunt:

Hide clues around the house that lead to ingredients for different PB&J variations. Clues can be riddles, rhymes, or pictures.  For example, a clue might be “I’m yellow and bendy, but not a banana.

Find me, and your PB&J will be extra fancier!” (referring to a banana).  The first person to find all the ingredients and assemble their PB&J wins a prize (extra dessert, choosing the next movie, etc.).

  1. DIY PB&J Board Game: Design a simple board game on a large piece of paper or cardboard.  Decorate it with pictures of PB&J ingredients and fun facts about peanuts.

Use buttons or small toys as game pieces, and create landing spaces with instructions like “Draw a card – take 2 extra slices of bread for your PB&J” or “Land on the jelly jar – tell a joke about peanut butter!”

Two Delicious PB&J Recipes:

  1. Elvis Presley’s Fried Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich:

This might sound unusual, but it’s a surprisingly tasty twist on the classic.  Spread peanut butter and jelly on two slices of bread.  Whisk an egg in a shallow dish.  Dip the sandwich in the egg, coating both sides, then pan-fry in a little butter until golden brown.  Sprinkle it with powdered sugar and enjoy!

  1. Peanut Butter and Jelly Quesadillas:

A fun and portable option.  Spread peanut butter on a whole wheat tortilla.  Top with your favorite jelly and sliced banana (optional).  Fold the tortilla in half and heat in a pan or quesadilla maker until golden brown and melty.  Cut into wedges and dip in yogurt or milk.

Have a happy National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day!
